The Crown Jewels
Fundraiser success: The Crown Jewels Chapter of the Links hosted their eighth annual Mardi Gras Gala with more than 400 attendees Feb. 18 at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte.
The event raised $5,000 for the Harvey B. Gantt Center, $5,000 for Johnson C. Smith University Scholarship Fund, and funds for an area high school student scholarship. The Links Inc. is a nonprofit international civic organization of more than 10,000 women of color committed to enhancing the quality of life in our communities. Presbyterian Cancer Center
Named top fundraiser: On Feb. 1 the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk Awards Celebration named Presbyterian Cancer Center the Top Statewide Fundraising Team for blood cancer research and patient services.
The team raised more than $47,000. Two thousand Charlotte area residents turned out for the 13th annual Light The Night Walk on Oct. 22 at Symphony Park with teams of co-workers, families and friends coming out to help build awareness about the more than one million people in North American living with a blood cancer and the many thousands more who have lost the battle. The walk raised $310,000, a record-breaking year for the Charlotte Walk. Details: www.lls.org/nc.
Benefit: The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art will host "Return to Modern: An Evening of an Era," a benefit event for the museum 7-11 p.m. March 23.
Proceeds will benefit all museum efforts including exhibitions, events, education and outreach programs. The event will celebrate the spirit of the late 1950s and include heavy hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and live music. Vintage modern cocktail attire encouraged. Tickets are $150. Ride Without Limits: Easter Seals is bringing their annual 19-hour cycling event, Ride Without Limits, to Charlotte Motor Speedway June2-3. Registration opened Feb. 17 and is limited to the first 1,000 registrants. Register at www.RideWithoutLimits.org. The event will take place 5 p.m. June 2 to noon June 3. Center of Hope Fundraiser
Gala for good: The Carolina Business Women and Charlotte Health & Business Networking are hosting a fundraising gala to benefit the Center of Hope women and children's homeless shelter in Charlotte and Redeemer's Recovery Ranch in Mint Hill. SouthPark: Opera Guild Carolina will hold a fundraiser 11 a.m. March 15 at level two in Nordstrom, SouthPark Mall.
There will be a fashion show featuring dresses that can be worn for every occasion with just the change of accessories. Tickets are $35 and seating is limited. Proceeds allow the Guild to support Opera Carolina, the Guild's young professional vocal competition and to further music education and interest in the opera.
