Kudos to the fair: Improvements at Cabarrus County Fair have earned 10 international awards and four state awards. The N.C. Association of Agricultural Fairs awarded the 2011 fair the Commissioner of Agriculture Award, the Youth Award, the Agriculture Award and the Media Award.

The International Association of Fairs and Expos judged the Cabarrus County Fair against regional and state fairs worldwide and presented six Hall of Honor Communication Awards, two Competitive Exhibit Awards and two Agricultural Program Awards.

The fair will celebrate its 60th anniversary Sept. 7-15 at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center, 4751 N.C. 49 N., Concord. www.cabarruscountyfair.com.

Get Green: Cabarrus County, Concord and Kannapolis will host Viva Verde Earth Fest 10 a.m.-3 p.m. April 14 at North Cabarrus Park, 760 Orphanage Road, Concord. The family-friendly event will raise awareness about environmental issues and a sustainable lifestyle. Also look for live music, food, information booths, nature walks, children's activities and more. Vendors, service groups, businesses and educational providers should apply by April 3. Concert: Tickets are on sale for a concert by the Canadian band Sagapool, part of the Cabarrus Arts Council's "On Stage at the Davis" series. It will be at 8 p.m. March 17 in the theater, 65 Union St. S. Tickets are $39, available at www.CabarrusArtsCouncil.org or at the box office, 704-920-2753, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.

Cemetery cleaning: The cemetery grounds at Oakwood and West Concord cemeteries, along with Rutherford Memorial Park, will be cleaned March 12-16. Items on or near gravesites should be removed before March 12 and not replaced until after March 16. Details: 704-786-8212.
