The Old Courthouse Theatre, will have auditions Sept. 7-8 for its fourth annual Halloween fundraising performance, “The Turn of the Screw,” by Jeffrey Hatcher, from the Henry James story. Auditions will be 7-9 p.m. each night at the theater, 49 Spring St. N.W., Concord; registration is 7-8 p.m.
A psychological thriller based on the tale of suspense, horror and repressed sexuality, this adaption gives James’ famous story a new turn. A lonely English manor house is inhabited by a young governess, two young, recently orphaned children and two ghosts. Or are the ghosts just figments of the young governess’s fevered imagination and she is mad?
Roles to be cast are one woman, age 18-30, to play the governess (needs strong acting range); and one male, age flexible, to play three roles: the female housekeeper, a 10-year-old boy and the children’s uncle (needs to have strong acting range and ability).
Performances will be Oct. 30-31 and Nov. 1.
