24 Hours of Booty
24 Hours of Booty will hold its 15th annual bike ride to benefit Levine Cancer Institute 7 p.m. July 29 to 7 p.m. July 30. Registration is open at www.24hoursofbooty.org. There is a $75 registration fee and riders are required to raise a minimum of $400 prior to the event to help fight cancer. Volunteers are also needed.
Free guitar lessons
Mouzon United Methodist Church is offering free weekly guitar lessons for community members who may not be able to afford regular lessons. Lessons will be held 6:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning March 2 in the sanctuary at Mouzon UMC, 3100 Selwyn Ave. Bring your own guitar. All skill levels welcome. The Faith Circle, a group of women from Harrison United Methodist Church, are serving local women and children in need by holding their spring children’s consignment sale, March 3-5 at Harrison UMC, 15008 Lancaster Hwy., Pineville. Shopping times are 6-8 p.m. March 3, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 4, and 8 a.m.-noon March 5. Sale will include children, teen and maternity items. Proceeds to benefit those in need. March Forth with Hope Foundation
Gatsby Gala fundraiser
The March Forth with Hope Foundation will sponsor the Celebrate Hope Gatsby Gala 6 p.m. March 5 at the Ballanytne Hotel & Lodge. The black tie and Gatsby-style gala will include cocktails, dinner, dancing and an auction. The foundation works to grant wishes of children with bone cancer. Carolina Waterfowl Rescue
Monthly donors needed
The local nonprofit, Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, is in desperate need of monthly donors to help support the thousands of birds and other creatures rescued and rehabilitated at the Rescue each year. Paint for a purpose
The Tipsy Paintbrush, 116 W. John Street, Matthews, will hold a CWR fundraiser 7-9 p.m. March 5 where participants will be guided by an artist to paint their own masterpiece featuring one of the CWR birds. South Mecklenburg High School
The South Mecklenburg High School baseball team will hold their fifth annual charity event March 12 to raise funds for The Miracle League, a charity organization that builds custom baseball fields so a child with special needs can play baseball. Last year’s event raised over $20,000. The event will begin at 11 a.m. with the junior varsity game and continue with the 2 p.m. varsity game and the 5 p.m. alumni game. The South Mecklenburg High Sabres will take on the Myers Park Mustangs at South Meck, 8900 Park Road.
“Be Irish for a Night,” the 22nd annual fundraiser for Pilgrims’ Inn, will take place 6:30-9:30 p.m. March 12 at St. Anne Parish Life Center, 1696 Bird Street, Rock Hill, S.C. The event features a corned beef and cabbage dinner, homemade Irish corn bread, desserts and drinks. There also will be Irish dancers, live music and a silent and live auction. Arts Council of Chester County
Oyster Roast fundraiser
The Arts Council of Chester County’s 10th annual Oyster Roast & Auction Fundraiser will take place 6-9 p.m. March 19 at the National Guard Armory, 1025 Armory Road, Chester, S.C.
Reserved tables are available for $600 and include eight tickets and preferred seating with business recognition. Half tables are available after at least one table has been purchased. Tickets are $40 for members and $45 for nonmembers. No tickets sold at the door. Tickets are available at the Arts Council, 123 Main St., and can be purchased with cash or checks only. Free tax services
The Mooresville-Lake Norman Christian Mission is offering free tax preparation to individuals and families with household incomes of $62,000 or less in 2015. These individuals are eligible to use MyFreeTaxes, a free national online tax filing platform, offering both online and in person. For the fifth year in a row, local nonprofit Common Heart is offering free tax services for families with an annual household income of $53,000 or less. Learning Help Centers of Charlotte
Learning Help Centers of Charlotte provides year-round programs for children and families living in low-income apartment communities.
