Labor Day parade will shut streets

The bands will play, the political candidates will wave and pageant queens will smile.

They're all part of Monday's 10th annual Charlotte Labor Day Parade that will close some center-city streets during the morning.

The parade will start at Ninth and Tryon streets and go to Third and Tryon. It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If driving uptown, stay away from Tryon in the morning, and beware of post-parade, early-afternoon traffic around the city.

Bus schedule

Charlotte Area Transit System buses will operate on a Sunday schedule for Labor Day. No express service will run, and Route 42 to Carowinds from the I-485 light-rail station will run every 45 minutes 7:55 a.m. through 7:35 p.m. Details: www.charmeck.org/departments/cats.
