Bikers to escort body to funeral home

A convoy of motorcylists will escort the body of Carolina Harley-Davidson Buell owner Click Baldwin from Charlotte to a Gastonia funeral home this afternoon.

Baldwin, 54, died late Tuesday following a wreck outside Lolo, Mont. According to the Montana Highway Patrol, his 2009 Harley-Davidson struck a car on U.S. 12.

Baldiwin's body is arriving this afternoon by private jet, according to convoy organizer Bill Starnes. The escort group will gather at Long John's Cycles on Belmont Mount Holly Road in Belmont and leave around 2:45 p.m. for the Ranch House Restaurant on Wilkinson Boulevard in Charlotte.

The group will follow the hearse down U.S. 29/74 through Belmont and Gastonia and turn left on U.S. 321, ending at Carothers Funeral Home, 312 W. Second St.

“We thought this would be a nice gesture,” Starnes said. “We want to honor and show our respect to Click and show our love and respect to his wife, Diane, and the family.”
