A man died after being shot in the chest in northwest Gastonia Thursday night.
The man, who authorities had not identified by late Thursday, was walking on Ransom Street when he was shot, authorities told NewsChannel 36, the Observer's news partner. The man staggered for about a block before collapsing on Walnut Street.

Paramedics, called just after 9:15 p.m., transported the man to Gaston Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police had blocked off the streets Thursday night as they processed evidence. They didn't immediately release a suspect's name or identify a person of interest and said they expected to reveal more information early Friday.
