Bank of Granite has promoted Morganton banker David Deal to vice president and Glenda Taylor to customer service and sales manager of its office at 201 E. Meeting St., Morganton.

Also named Morganton office manager, Deal has more than 36 years of banking experience. He joined Bank of Granite in 2006 as assistant vice president and loan officer.

Michelle Keener is the new assistant vice president and office manager of the downtown Hickory office, 25 Third St. N.W.

A native of Brewerton, N.Y., she moved to the Hickory area with her family in 1985.

Hickory resident Scott Owens' new collection of poetry, “The Fractured World,” was recently released by Main Street Rag Publishing Company. The book is available at Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse as well as online.

Owens is the visiting writer at Catawba Valley Community College and founder/coordinator of Poetry Hickory.

Morganton's Medicine Shoppe managers have closed the franchise and have reopened under a new name, Table Rock Pharmacy, with a healthcare business that is independent and locally owned and operated. The pharmacy remains at the corner of College Street and Fleming Drive.

Richard and Shara Owensby ran The Medicine Shoppe since 1990.
