The Highland School of Technology cheerleaders recently won the Most Spirited Squad award at a cheerleading camp at Butler High School in Charlotte.

With Friends is recruiting young people for its With Friends Teen Board.

Participants must be at least 14 years old and be willing to serve six to 10 hours a month working to prevent or reduce alcohol and other drug use.

Natalie Tindol and Tindol Ford recently donated a new scoreboard for the football stadium at Forestview High School.

The Jaguars will host homecoming on Oct. 10 against North Gaston.

Jessica Parks, John Watts and Kelly McHugh of Forestview High School were recently nominated for the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship.

The students now will compete for the award given by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Kelly McHugh was recently named the 2008 Carrousel Princess at Forestview High School.

She will compete in the scholarship pageant in Charlotte in November.

Mount Holly Middle is operating a school store again this year. Located in the front office near the lobby, the store sells spirit wear such as T-shirts, sling bags and bling.

The store is open Oct. 14-17, Nov. 18-21, Dec. 16-19 this semester.

Seniors interested in teaching as a career can apply for the N.C. Teaching Fellows Scholarship.

Selection is based on academic achievement, community service and extracurricular activities. Winners receive four-year scholarships to participating universities in North Carolina. Application deadline is Oct. 17. To apply, see a guidance counselor.

North Belmont Elementary School will host its first golf tournament fundraiser on Oct. 10 at Crowders Mountain Golf Course. Sponsors, players and volunteers are needed.

Registration deadlines are approaching for students interested in taking the SAT this fall.

The standardized test will be offered Dec. 6 at Crest High School and Shelby High in Shelby, Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia and Kings Mountain High School in Kings Mountain. Registration deadline is Nov. 5.
