The Hickory Foundation YMCA will sponsor a multi-team attempt to break the world record for continuous tennis play. The YMCA will make the attempt from noon Nov. 7 through 2 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Hickory Foundation YMCA at 701 First St. N.W..

Five teams of four people each will play for 50 hours in an attempt to beat the world record of 49 hours, 19 minutes.

Gaston College

Gaston College hopes to establish a presence in eastern Lincoln County and is seeking input from area residents.

A brief survey about proposed class offerings and class times is available on the Gaston College Web site. The survey also requests suggestions on the best way to get information about classes to the public.

Gaston College expects to schedule classes in East Lincoln beginning with the spring semester.

Hickory

The U.S. Navy Band Brass Quintet will perform at 3 p.m. Nov. 15 in P.E. Monroe Auditorium at Lenoir-Rhyne University. The free concert is sponsored by the Lenoir-Rhyne Friends of Music.

Members of the ensemble also perform with the U.S. Navy Band in Washington. The brass quintet was founded in 1971.

The concert is presented by the Lenoir-Rhyne Concert Series as a salute to veterans. For details, contact Christopher Nigrelli at 828-328-7150 or nigrellic@lr.edu.

The deadline is 5 p.m. Nov. 7 to submit your nonprofit organization's holiday wish list for the Neighbors' annual Giving Guide, which will run Nov. 30.

Material wishes: a list of goods your group could use.

Volunteer needs: a list of tasks your group needs volunteers for.
