Video contest winners: A public service announcement video on pedestrian safety by eighth-graders Jamison Ishihara and Elijah Kidd recently won the Moment of Silence Middle School contest sponsored by Safe Kids Charlotte Mecklenburg. The contest is designed to raise awareness of walking safety among youth. Participants had to answer the question, “How would you tell your friends to put down their phones when crossing the street?” by producing a 60-second storyboard or video. Teacher Debbie Gresham paired Jamison and Elijah as a team for the project. Jamison and Elijah each received a $100 gift card and a certificate. Their entry will be submitted to the nationwide contest, and local safety departments will use the video in their safety programming. The national winners’ video will be professionally produced.
