Fashion show offers ways to save money and help the community

Braelyn Garber, 4

The second annual fashion show sponsored by East Lincoln Christian Ministry in Denver is set for March 28.

The show runs 1-3 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on N.C. 16 in Denver.

More than a dozen volunteer models from the community will present fashions for men and women. Last year’s show included models ranging in age from 2 to 85.

Included will be like-new or only slightly used dresses, such as prom dresses, formal wedding gowns and dresses for “mother of the bride.” In keeping with the wedding theme, there will also be dresses for bridesmaids, flower girls and other young girls.

Vintage dresses for women, as well as tuxedos and dress suits for men, will also be offered for sale, as will jewelry, shoes, purses and other accessories.

Free make-up samples will be offered by representatives of Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Prices will range from $5 to $50 for garments that may have cost much more when first purchased. ELCM volunteer Kathy Bilodeau, organizer for the show, said items such as these are always available at bargain-basement prices at the ministry.

People attending the show may try on any garments while there for purchase that day or reserve them for later purchase.

Last year’s event attracted more than 150 people, and more are expected this year. Admission is free and reservations are recommended.

Proceeds from the show will support the activities at East Lincoln Christian Ministry. Assistance provided to the local community includes food aid for more than 1,000 households each year, as well as hundreds of holiday meals at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Another program uses 200 volunteer drivers to provide home-delivered hot lunches weekdays to elderly, disabled or home-bound people. In addition, 900 families were provided with financial assistance for utilities, housing and medical expenses.

East Lincoln Christian Ministry is an all-volunteer organization, serving the local community for more than 30 years.
