Curriculum Night: Parents can walk through their student’s schedule and learn about the curriculum at Curriculum Night at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 21. Families should report to each student’s first-block teacher. The PTSA will have information tables set up to answer questions about membership, the Huskies Fund, volunteering and linking Harris Teeter cards. The Hough Spirit Store will also be open. The PTSA will hold a short general membership meeting that evening as well in order to approve this year's budget.

T-shirt design contest: The Hough Athletic Club and the PTSA are hosting a contest to decide the design for the 2015 Blackout football game T-shirt. The winner will receive $100 cash. The shirts will be sold by preorder through the student store for the game, which will be held on Nov. 5. Shirts will be black with a silver/gray design. Designs should be submitted by Oct. 9 to email@example.com. The winner will be chosen on Oct. 12.
North Mecklenburg High
School needs: The Health Room is in need of donations of tissues, hand sanitizer, Band-Aids of all sizes, sanitary pads, gloves and water bottles. The Guidance Department needs a microwave for the staff lounge. A donation receipt can be issued for tax purposes. Also, the Media Center is accepting donations of old magazines to be used in student projects throughout the school year. Collection boxes for the magazines are in the main office, the Media Center and the Guidance Office.

SouthLake Christian Academy
Middle-school retreat: On Sept. 2, SouthLake Christian Academy’s seventh and eighth grades held a middle-school retreat at YMCA’s Camp Thunderbird on Lake Wylie in South Carolina. More than 100 Southlake Christian Academy students spent the day participating in outdoor activities. Simon Foster from Life Fellowship was the guest speaker at devotion, and Kyle Dillard from Mission City Church performed Christian music on the acoustic guitar. Outdoor activities included a 40-foot slip-and-slide, rock climbing, a zip line, climbing an alpine tower, playing soccer, volleyball and ultimate Frisbee.
