During the month of March, The Book Rack, which has over 25,000 reduced-price used books, will donate 10 percent of each sale to the school of the customer’s choice. Grin Kids fundraiser
Ace & TJ’s Grin Kids is joining forces with Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurants in Charlotte. During the month of March, customers can make a donation to Ace & TJ’s Grin Kids at any area Jersey Mike’s restaurant. On March 30, all participating Jersey Mike’s will donate 100 percent of that day’s proceeds to the Grin Kids, which will support over 180 charities including hospitals, youth organizations, food banks and more. Free guitar lessons
Mouzon United Methodist Church is offering free weekly guitar lessons for community members who may not be able to afford regular lessons. Lessons will be held 6:30-7 p.m. Wednesdays in the sanctuary at Mouzon UMC, 3100 Selwyn Ave. Bring your own guitar. All skill levels welcome. Big Guy’s Pizza fundraiser
Big Guy’s Pizza, 6914 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, will hold a fundraising dinner 5-8 p.m. March 19 to raise money for Carolina Waterfowl Rescue. The event will also include raffle prizes. www.cwrescue.org.
Monthly donors needed
The local nonprofit, Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, is in desperate need of monthly donors to help support the thousands of birds and other creatures rescued and rehabilitated at the Rescue each year. Oyster roast fundraiser
The Charlotte Providence Rotary Club’s 14th annual oyster roast, BBQ and silent auction fundraiser will take place 5-8 p.m. March 19 at William R. Davie Park, 4623 Pineville-Matthews Road. Tickets are $35 and include all-you-can-eat steamed oysters, Spoon’s BBQ & fixings, clam chowder, hushpuppies, desserts/coffee, tea and OMB beer. Virtual chili cook off
The Exceptional Foundation of Charlotte, a nonprofit that provides social and recreational opportunities for adults with disabilities, will hold it’s first TEF Charlotte Chili Cook-Off Online Fundraiser now through April 9. Prepare your team, create your virtual kitchen, and gets your friends and family to vote for your team by donating. Each dollar raised counts as a vote. Festival of Tables
The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, a civic-minded group of Charlotte-area women who seek to raise awareness and support for those in need, will hold their 28th annual Festival of Tables 10 a.m.-1 p.m. April 15 at the Sheraton Hotel, 555 S. McDowell St. The event will bring together Charlotte’s finest designers and will feature a silent auction, luncheon and speaker. The event will benefit The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte, the Center of Hope shelter, and the Salvation Army Christmas Center. The nonprofit Common Heart will host its sixth annual Common Cupboard Golf Classic at noon May 2 at Firethorne Country Club, Marvin, NC. There will be prizes, lunch, free polo shirts for golfers, dinner and a silent auction. The cost is $125 per person if registered by April 2, or $150 thereafter. Free tax services
For the fifth year in a row, local nonprofit Common Heart is offering free tax services for families with an annual household income of $53,000 or less. Qualified volunteers offer help with tax form preparation. Last year, the service saved residents an estimated $65,000 in preparation fees and got 279 families more than $360,000 in total refunds. The 10th annual Drumstrong event, which raises funds and awareness for cancer survivorship, education and research, will take place 8 a.m.-11 p.m. May 21 at Misty Meadows Farm, 455 Providence Road South, Weddington. Bosom Buddies gala
Davidson College’s Connor House will hold its 16th Bosom Buddies gala 6 p.m. March 19 at the Lilly Family Gallery on the Davidson campus, 209 Ridge Road, Davidson. The Mooresville-Lake Norman Christian Mission is offering free tax preparation to individuals and families with household incomes of $62,000 or less in 2015. These individuals are eligible to use MyFreeTaxes, a free national online tax filing platform, offering both online and in person. Hunger Games fundraiser
Rusk Eating House of Davidson College is holding a “Hunger Games” fundraiser March 18 where students, faculty, staff and community members will participate in traditional field day activities geared toward hunger awareness. The proceeds from the games and the fundraising page will be donated to Moo Meals, which helps feed low income students in the Mooresville area, and No Kid Hungry, a national organization that fights hunger. The Union County Girl Scouts from Troop 2684 and 878 are hosting the third annual Wesley Chapel Open Market 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Siler Presbyterian Church, 6301 Weddington Monroe Road, Wesley Chapel. This community yard sale is currently seeking local crafters, farmers, yard sellers, business owners and Scouts that are interested in participating as vendors. National Alliance on Mental Illness Piedmont Tri-County will hold a free education series for caregivers that care for a loved one with mental illness. The 11 week course begins Monday April 18, 6:15-8:45 p.m., at First Baptist Church, 481 Hood Center Drive, Rock Hill, SC. The class will provide basic education about brain disorders and helpful ways to care for those with mood disorders, panic disorders, bipolar disorder, OCD, schizophrenia and addictive disorders. Oyster Roast fundraiser
The Arts Council of Chester County’s 10th Annual Oyster Roast & Auction Fundraiser will take place 6-9 p.m. March 19 at the National Guard Armory, 1025 Armory Road, Chester, SC. The event features a silent and live auction, all-you-can-eat steamed oyster bar and Lowcountry boil buffet, slaw, bread, dessert and sweet tea. Reserved tables are available for $600 and include eight tickets and preferred seating with business recognition. Half tables are available after at least one table has been purchased. Tickets are $40 for members and $45 for nonmembers. No tickets sold at the door. Tickets are available at the Arts Council, 123 Main St., and can be purchased with cash or checks only.
