The Huntersville Police Department will host National Night Out with two community celebrations this year, thanks to lead sponsors Target and the Northcross Shopping Center.
The locations for the Aug. 2 observances are Target and Northcross Shopping Center, 9801 Sam Furr Road, and Waymer Park, 14200 Holbrooks Road. Both locations will be open 5-8 p.m. Highlights include music and rides.
Cornelius, Davidson and Mooresville traditionally host a National Night Out event as well.
National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, is a national neighborhood crime and drug prevention event held annually on the first Tuesday in August. Over the past few decades, National Night Out participation has grown to more than 37 million people in 15,000 communities to include all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases, as well as Canada. This marks the 10th year the Town of Huntersville has participated in National Night Out.
If you are an area business who would like to be a vendor at the events, please contact Huntersville Police Sgt. Brad Habenicht at firstname.lastname@example.org or 704-464-5359.
As part of the planned events, the Huntersville Police ask that residents get to know one another by introducing yourself to your neighbors. Also, consider planning neighborhood events, such as block parties, cookouts, porch sittings and events aimed at reducing crime and the fear of it. If you are planning your own community event and would like officers to attend, or if you have any questions, contact Habenicht.
If you can not attend the town event, the Huntersville Police Department asks that you show your support by leaving your front porch light turned on 8-10 p.m.
The Cornelius Police Department event includes children’s activities, food and entertainment.
