This year, 2 teams of T-ballers at play

Davidson Parks and Recreation provides ever-changing activities for all ages and interests.

Last year, the agency started a girls T-ball team for 5- and 6-year-old girls, and this year there was enough interest for two teams of tiny sluggers.

For older residents, there are numerous activities at the North Mecklenburg Senior Center this week, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m..

Free window fans will be distributed to all eligible seniors who show proof of Mecklenburg County residency and are 60 and older.

Special weekly activities:

Monday

9 a.m.: Cards, coffee and conversation.

9:30 a.m.: Scrabble.

Call for times: Knit and crochet club.

Tuesday

9 a.m.: Cards, coffee and conversation.

9 a.m.: Happy feet walking club. Meet at Waterfront Hall at Jetton Park, Cornelius.

1 p.m.: Bingo.

Wednesday

9 a.m.: Cards, table games, puzzles and conversation.

10 a.m.: Introduction to Bridge class.

10 a.m.: Hand and foot.

12 p.m.: Mah Jongg.

12 p.m.: Social bridge for beginners.

1 p.m.: Pinochle.

Thursday

9 a.m. Cards, table games, puzzles and conversation. All welcome.

10:15 a.m.: Line Dance $2.50 per class; walk-ins welcome.

10:30 a.m.: Senior Yoga; must preregister: call 704-892-4041.

10:30 a.m.: Social bridge.

Friday

9 a.m-3 p.m.: Come play cards, do a puzzle, crosswords, table games.

More events

Future special events include a catered lunch and cruise aboard the Catawba Queen, 12:30-2:30 p.m. July 25 for $10 per person. Reservations required: 704-892-4041. This event is sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care, The Laurels and the Haven and Gentiva Home Health.

Seniors should wear their best Hawaiian shirt to the Summer Luau, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 20. This event raises money for the senior center and includes hula demonstrations and lessons, good food, games, raffles and prizes. Call 704-892-4041 to register.

The Carolina Renaissance Festival, an outdoor theater, circus, arts and crafts fair, jousting tournament and feast, is searching for street characters, musicians, dancers and variety acts 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and noon to 3 p.m. Saturday in the community building at the Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church, 8300 McClure Circle.

The festival will be held for seven weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 4-Nov. 16, on a 245-acre site at the junction of N.C. 73 and Poplar Tent Road.
