The opening of the town's skate park will likely be delayed several weeks after $15,000 in equipment was stolen last week.
“It appears that someone knew exactly what they were looking for and how this equipment could be used,” said Wanda McKenzie, director of Mooresville Parks & Recreation.
The equipment was stolen from the park construction site between Tuesday afternoon and early Wednesday, police and town recreation officials said in a news release. Custom panels used in the construction of half-pike ramps were taken.
The skate park was nearing completion, and town staff were in the midst of installing the equipment.

The types of panels stolen are no longer available commercially, and modifications will have to be made to remaining equipment to complete the components of the park, McKenzie said.
Anyone with information about the theft or the possible location of the stolen panels should call the Mooresville Police Department at 704-664-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 704-658-9056. Crime Stoppers offers a reward for information leading to an arrest or the recovery of stolen property.
