The city of Statesville has received an $18,000 grant to improve the city's curbside recycling program. The grant comes from the N.C. Division of Pollution Prevention and will be used to increase the number of citizens who recycle. More than 1,500 red recycling bins will be purchased to distribute throughout the city.
Residents who are already recycling may request an additional bin. By having two bins per residence, the city hopes that residents will help make the pick-up more efficient, using one container for newspapers and the other for aluminum, plastic and glass.
The grant will also be used to expand the curbside recycling program to schools and apartments.
If citizens request a bin before Sept. 1, they will receive four Hickory Crawdad tickets to use at any home game this season. To request a bin: 704-878-3415.
