Jeff Hymes, of Boy Scout Troop 13, is conducting a book drive to benefit Lake Norman Charter High School.
New and used books appropriate for high school students can be dropped off today at the Rosedale Bi-Lo in Huntersville (exit 23) or the Creative Arts Exchange on Oak Street in Cornelius (behind the police station).
Any money collected will be used to purchase bookcases. Individuals or businesses who donate $50 or more will be recognized on a certificate in the new library.

The Lake Norman Regional Medical Center's volunteer auxiliary has awarded six $2,000 scholarships to area students. The purpose of the scholarships is to encourage study and participation in medical and health-related professions.
The 2008 scholarship recipients are as follows:
Jessica Pierce, a student at UNC Charlotte; Evan Shek, a student at UNC Charlotte; Breanna Pasko, a Mooresville High School graduate, will attend N.C. State University; Rebecca Alms, a Hickory High School graduate, plans to attend Wake Forest University; Zachary Connell, a Lake Norman High School graduate; Tyler Glasco, a Lake Norman High School graduate.
Adam Ameer Hasan was recently awarded the Rabbittown/Sunnyside reunion Scholarship.
This scholarship is open to any student who lives, once lived and or is a descendant of the old Rabbittown/Sunnyside neighborhoods.
Hasan is a 2008 graduate of the Academy of Excellence. While in school, he played basketball and piano. He was senior adviser to the math club, served as class chaplain, attended the Jesse Helms leadership program and served on the local Obama for President Committee.
He is the son of Omar and Frances Hasan. He will be attending N.C. A&T University in Greensboro and will major in computer science and software engineering.
