Grace Covenant Academy is accepting 2008-09 registration for Pre-K through middle school. Monthly open houses will begin in October in preparation for the 2009-10 enrollment period. Details: www.grace covenantacademy.org or 704-892-5601.

Breanna Pasko, a 2008 graduate of Mooresville High School, recently received the Bobbie G. Edmisten Scholarship, awarded by Statesville Branch of the American Association of University Women.

She will attend N.C. State University and plans a career in medicine.

This is the 29th year AAUW Statesville Branch has given a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating high school woman.

The Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists will award a $1,000 scholarship to a college student in the Charlotte metro area who is pursuing a career in journalism or mass communication. Application deadline is Oct. 31.

Applicants must meet the following requirements: be a full-time college student pursing a journalism/communication degree, have at least a 3.0 GPA, be a U.S. citizen or legal resident and live in the Charlotte area during the school year.
