Brooklyn South celebrates 10 years

Brooklyn South Pizzeria & Italian Eatery, a family-owned restaurant featuring New York pizza, celebrates its 10th anniversary in Cornelius in October.

Vincent Caminiti owns Brooklyn South with his wife, Lucy, and their daughter, Gianna.

The pizzeria opened in a 60-seat space behind the Peninsula Harris Teeter. In July 2004, Brooklyn South moved to its present location on Jetton Road, expanding from 2,200 to 4,000 square feet and adding a banquet room for large parties.

Brooklyn South has never offered delivery, Vincent Caminiti said, because the pizzeria would lose the connection with its customers. “It's served us well to stay true to what we do best,” he said.

To thank customers, Brooklyn South will host a free Sons of Italy Car Show, featuring Ferraris and other show cars, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26. Family entertainment will include inflatables for children and face painting

Brooklyn South will sell a commemorative anniversary T-shirt throughout October, with part of the proceeds benefiting the Harrison Nichols Foundation. Gina and Mike Nichols, friends of the Caminitis, lost their 9-year-old son to neuroblastoma, a form of cancer. Gina Nichols is running in the New York marathon to raise money to fund research toward a cure, “and we want to help,” Lucy Caminiti said.

Brooklyn South: 19400 Jetton Road, 704-896-2928.
