Residents in north Mecklenburg County have wondered when the new leg of Interstate 485 will open.
The anticipation of that ratcheted up Tuesday, when one lane of Interstate 77 north was closed to put up new signs for that leg of the I-485 outerbelt.
Jen Thompson of the N.C. Department of Transportation reports that the outerbelt stretch to N.C. 115 could still be open by the end of the month, but that could depend on getting enough dry weather.
Lots of roadwork remains, including building shoulders, cleaning out pipe systems and clearing drainage boxes. That could push the opening back a few weeks, especially if weather delays pop up.
