Bond rating upgrade: The town was notified May 3 that Moody's Investors Services moved the rating of the town's bonds up from double-A-plus to Triple-A status.
Town Manager Greg Ferguson said the improved rating shows that despite the struggling economy, the town remains in good financial condition and should help reduce debt payments on capital projects and save taxpayers on interest costs.
Animal shelter fundraiser: Two Casino Cruise events June 18 will benefit the Cornelius Animal Shelter's animal wellness program. The N 2 Deep yacht will set sail at 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. from Midtown Sundries, Cornelius. There will be casino games, food, door prizes and silent auction. Tickets are $50. The shelter is holding a raffle for two round-trip tickets. The $5 tickets are available at Impeccable Paws, 19930 W. Catawba Ave. The winner will be announced during the last cruise. Input needed: Navigate Cornelius, the name of a town-wide focus group project, is underway. Focus group meetings will run through May.
The effort will utilize input from residents, property owners and business owners regarding the future of Cornelius and use it to develop a strategic implementation plan.
Input also will be used to help with annual budgetary requests and serve as a tool to evaluate new development projects.
