Activities: Guests can visit Western North Carolina's most popular waterfalls and trails, as recognized by The Blue Ridge National Heritage Area, at Graveyard Fields. The flat mountain valley is home to three waterfalls on the Yellowstone Prong River. Hikers can also enjoy the Graveyard Fields Loop Trail, a moderate 3.19 mile hike. The fields are rumored to have gotten their name after a windstorm uprooted the forest and left tree stumps behind. Graveyard fields then experienced fires in 1925 and in the early 1940s, scorching the tree stumps and leaving the area to resemble a graveyard.
