Six area players were named to the N.C. Softball Coaches Association All-State Team June 27.

Hopewell's Kelly Braman and Stephanie Spain joined North Meck's Daniela Torres, Jasmyn Lindsay, Sara Allen and Sarah Mooney on the team.

Mooney, who was the I-Meck Player of the Year, was also named 4A West Player of the Year by the NCSCA.

The softball organization recognizes outstanding achievement in softball. Member and non-member coaches are given the opportunity to nominate players for all-state awards.

The selection committees consist of NCSCA members from all four classifications who demonstrate superior knowledge of the game and its participants.

Top Tier teams qualify to national lacrosse tourney

Top Tier's High School Elite and Select lacrosse teams, which are comprised of area players, fought outstanding competition in the blazing heat the weekend of June 26-27 to clinch the championship of the Warrior Southern Sizzle Tournament, a Tournament of Champions qualifying event.

Both teams earned the right to play in the Dick's Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions - the boys' high school club lacrosse national championship. The tournament will be held in Tampa, Fla., on New Year's weekend.

Top Tier is a Cornelius-based lacrosse organization.
