Swing Dance Lessons:

The Cornelius PARC Department is offering a "Couch-to-5K Running Plan" for participants 18 and up. The six-week program will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday nights starting July 12. All classes are held at Bailey Middle School Track at 11900 Bailey Road in Cornelius. Registration is $40 per resident and $48 per non-resident. Learn the Shag Dance:

Two seven-week sets of shag dance lessons start July 13. Offered by Twister's Shag Club, a nonprofit social group for singles and couples age 21 and over. Beginner I lessons 7 p.m., for those who don't know how to shag (or who want to learn proper technique). Beginner II lessons start at 8:30 p.m., for those who have taken the first class or are comfortable with all the basic steps and are ready to learn more. Open dancing with a DJ before, between and after lessons. $30 per person for each seven-week set. Friends of Sherrills Ford Library to host "Wild, Woolly and Wonderful," theatrical production by the Connie Company. All ages. Free performance to feature a "trip" to the jungle for stories, poems and songs. The Connie Company is the youth division of Davidson Community Players. Each summer the company sponsors a two-week workshop for area teens, ending with an original community production featuring teen actors. Refreshments served. Civil War Re-enactment:

Relive battle between North and South as soldiers re-enact the American Civil War. The Sample family, who lived at Latta 1853-1922, had four sons who fought in and survived the war. Walk through soldier camps, shop with period sutlers, tour plantation house and grounds, watch the main battle at 2 p.m. each day.
