Cornelius

Playground funding: Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation awarded a $9,500 grant to the town of Cornelius Parks, Arts and Recreation & Culture Department. The money will be used to build a playground at the future Westmoreland Athletic Complex.

Area wide

Volunteers needed: The Cornelius Branch Library is looking for volunteer "circulation assistants." There are 25 volunteer positions available. Residents who can consistently donate two or more hours a week for six months will be considered. Prospective volunteers must be at least 14. Applications will be accepted through Aug. 13. Huntersville

Award: Clearwater Manufacturing , headquartered in Huntersville, was awarded the 2010 Regional Advanced Manufacturing Award for "Best Innovation Project" for companies its size. Clearwater introduced a mini-water bottling machine that boasts zero waste by reusing glass or aluminum bottles that are returned after use. The awards are hosted by Minds That Manufacture.
