Parks and recreation: Residents are invited to tell the town what is important for the parks and recreation system at a master-plan hearing 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at the Torrence Creek Elementary School.
Trash collection fees: The town has started charging for collection of trash, recyclables and yard debris. The fee went into effect July 1, and charges are reflected in tax bills. For single-family residences and mobile homes with rollout carts and recycling bins, the fee is $201 annually. For multiple-family developments such as Davidson Landing and Spinnaker Point, each residence will be charged between $57 and $85.

Take up the challenge: Partner firms Aqualine and Aquanomix of Davidson have issued a challenge grant of $5,000 in an effort to raise money for the Cornelius Veterans Monument. This is the first corporate donation for the monument. The monument will include the names of all veterans, living or deceased, who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, received an honorable discharge, and lived in Cornelius at some point in their lives.
