The Cornelius/LKN Lions Club is holding an eyeglass recycling collection 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Cashion's Quick Stop, 19733 Statesville Road, Cornelius.
This event is part of the "Sharing the Vision" campaign, a Lions global campaign in October that focuses on the importance of healthy vision.
Dr. Steven Friedman of Horizon Eye Care in Fountain Plaza, 19900 W. Catawba Ave., Cornelius, is accepting donations of eyeglasses throughout the month. "Lions throughout the world share a common vision - to fight blindness and provide vision care for all. Every five seconds someone in our world goes blind, and a child goes blind every minute.
" Many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms, and as a result, individuals are often unaware that problems exist," said Club President Angelo A. Lorusso Jr. "Organizing this project gives us a chance to shine a light on vision and provide an awareness of the causes of visual impairments."
