Leaf pickup: The town will no longer use a leaf collection truck to pick up leaves raked or blown curbside. Instead, residents are responsible for bagging leaves for weekly pickup by Republic Waste or for finding alternatives for disposal. Residents can put out up to 20 bags per week for Republic pickup on Wednesdays. Alternatives include mulching and composting. Details: www.wipeoutwaste.com.
Free vision exam: Free vision screenings will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 28 at the North Campus of Central Piedmont Community College on Verhoeff Drive. The campus is on the Village Rider bus line route. Individuals who want screening must be over age 6. Participants between 6 and 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the registration form.
