Lake Norman & Mooresville

All-Lake Norman News girls' tennis team

For most of the last decade, the Lake Norman area has produced some of the top tennis talent in the state on both the boys' and girls' courts.

This year was no different, as several girls' teams and individuals from Huntersville to Davidson to Lincoln County had reasons to remember a great year.

Davidson Day's Jenny Falcone stood out above the rest winning her second straight singles title, as the senior capped her two-year Patriot career without losing a match.

Lake Norman News Player of the Year: Jenny Falcone, Davidson Day

Jenny Falcone has done just about everything in her high school career. The Davidson Day senior capped her career by winning her second straight NCISAA singles title over Statesville Christian's Allie Burgiss.

Falcone, who will go to school and play tennis at College of Charleston next year, won the singles title for the second year in a row. Falcone also claimed the 2010 state doubles championship with teammate Allie Uszenski.

Falcone, who won 252 of the 258 games she played in high school, was also recently named N.C. Player of the Year by the United States' Tennis Association (USTA).

Lake Norman News Coach of the Year: Julie Fox, Hough

Julie Fox started the year in a tough position as the leader of a first-year program at Hough. But the Huskies coach led her team to an 8-4 record, including a third place finish in the I-Meck and a wildcard berth in the 4A playoffs, before losing to Myers Park 6-0 in the first round.

Fox and company did all of this without a senior on the team, which should mean bigger and better things for the Hough girls' tennis team in the future.
