Logging: The Mecklenburg County Board's Natural Resources Committee has approved a plan to allow logging in nature preserves. The Land Use and Environmental Services Agency and Park and Recreation have teamed up to allow the harvesting of the pine forests. Latta Plantation and Cowan's Ford were two area nature preserves that would allow harvesting of trees to protect native species and preserve natural ecological processes. Profits from lumber will be used for restoration and management of natural communities. This proposal might be heard at tonight's county commission meeting.
