Pine Lake Preparatory and Lincoln Charter School are holding a Paws at the Park event to support the Humane Society of Iredell and Lincoln County Humane Society.
The first Paws at the Park will be April 8 at the Lincoln Charter School middle and high school campus, 7834 Galway Lane, Denver.
The K-12 event centers around middle school and high school spring athletic competitions between the schools.
Attendees are encouraged to bring pet food items leading up to the event; all donations will be given to the humane societies.

A portion of the monetary proceeds will also go to the societies.
Donations can be dropped off at schools. Pine Lake Preparatory, 1639 Mecklenburg Hwy., Mooresville, and Lincoln Charter will compete to raise the most pounds of pet food.
The school with the largest amount of food will win a roving trophy.
These humane societies specifically need:
Any brand of canned or pouch dog, cat, puppy or kitten food.
Dry dog and cat food.
Beef or chicken rawhide chewies.
Meaty Bones dog biscuits.
Pet owners are encouraged to bring their pets to the event.
Awards will be given to the pet with the most clever trick, most unique howl or bark, ugliest pet, cutest pet, and a look-a-like contest (pets and owners).
Pet tickets are $1, with that money going directly to the humane societies.
