Davidson IB Middle
Information night: An information night will be held at J.M. Alexander Middle School for rising sixth-graders 6:30 a.m. April7. Parents and students can tour the school and learn about the curriculum and middle school programming.
High school session: Mallard Creek counselors will meet April 6 with eight-graders about registration and transitioning to high school.

All-school Mass: April 6; Fourth-grade class Mass April13.
30-hours famine: Eighth-grade students will participate in the 30-hour famine April 14-15. Speakers and activities are planned. The eighth grade has set a fundraising goal for the project at $10,000.
Career day: Middle school students Career Day is April18.
Speaker Series: Davidson Day institute presents "How Nutrition Affects Student Performance" 6:30-9 p.m. April 6 in the Davidson Day Commons. The discussion includes information on nutrition and mental and physical health to improve academic and athletic performance. Find out solutions and recipes. $5 parents, $4 students.
Buses donated: Two activity buses were donated to the school from Trustee Richard Gordon and family.
"Race to Nowhere:" 7 p.m. April 4. $10; $15 at the door.
Theater needs: The school's spring musical of "The Lion King" presented by the theater department is seeking donations of three-piece suits and khaki/tan, gray, black, white dress pants, jackets and vests. Make donations to the front desk. The performance is 1 p.m. April 6, 6:30 p.m. April 7 and 7 p.m. April8.
Mother/son kickball game: 3:30-5 p.m. April8.

Graduation Speaker: Charlotte Woman of the Year Dr. Ophelia Garmon-Brown will address the class of 2011 on May 20. This is the school's 10th commencement program.
Alumna goes to Washington: Deeona Gaskin, a 2005 Cannon School alumna, travelled to Washington D.C. as a Harvard University Zuckerman Program Fellow. Gaskin, a Harvard Law School student, met with Gen. David H. Petraeus, the American commander of Western forces in Afghanistan, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL). Gaskin graduated from Yale University in 2009 with a bachelor's in political science. She is currently at Harvard pursuing a law degree and a Master's of Public Health.
Student Art Show
Energy Explorium: The McGuire Nuclear Station's Energy Explorium will host a youth art show 1-3 p.m. April 2. The art is from students from public and private schools as well as home schools and community art groups.

Pine Lake Preparatory and Lincoln Charter School
Humane Society event: Pine Lake Preparatory and Lincoln Charter School will host the first annual Paws at the Park 3:45-6 p.m. April 8 at the LCS Denver campus. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Lincoln County Humane Society and the Humane Society of Iredell County. Attendees are encouraged to bring pet food items. Donations can be made to the school's administrative assistant beginning April 7.
