Firefighters from Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville battled the fire that destroyed two homes and damaged two others in the Glenridge neighborhood in Cornelius last week.
The fire on Meadow Crossing Lane started in a rollout recycling container, and flames shot up the vinyl siding of the home, said Cornelius Police Chief Jim Barbee. The intensity of the heat caught the homes beside it on fire, he said.
Three families were displaced but no one was injured. No one lives at the fourth home.
Cornelius-based Aquesta Bank has set up a fund for the families. People can drop off checks at the bank's locations in Cornelius, Davidson and Mooresville.
