Lake Norman & Mooresville

So a comic walks into a bar in Mooresville ...

If you're looking for a place to go for good fun and entertainment in Mooresville, one business is serving up a type of entertainment that's one-of-a-kind in town.

It's chicken soup for the soul.

The Hideaway has several types of entertainment every night, from Karaoke to live bands, Bluegrass to DJs. The Hideway is at 516 River Highway, across from Lowes Home Improvement on N.C. 150.

But on Monday evenings, comedy takes the stage.

The Hideaway launched a Comedy Showcase, 9-11p.m. every third Monday of the month, earlier this year. Comedian Sid Davis, who is from Mooresville but now performs in Las Vegas, said it best: "The Hideaway showcase is a very fun comedy venue for spectators and comics alike," said Davis, a retired airline mechanic who lives across the street from the municipal golf course.

"You may see a full gamut of comic entertainers. Some are just cutting their teeth; some are national headliners dropping by to try out a few lines for a new show," he said. "It's an intimate comedy experience for the folks of Mooresville."

Comedian Pat Saber of Mooresville said it's a good value and no one has to fight the Charlotte traffic. Admission is $5 at the door.

"It's an opportunity to perfect skills as well as test out new material on a broad audience," said Saber. "The Hideaway draws from all age categories and ethnic backgrounds, so it's a good time for neighbors to gather, eat and laugh.

"There's definitely a variety in the comedians. The old saying is if you really don't like one of us, in this setting, just wait a few minutes and someone else will make you laugh."

The third Monday of the month is the showcase, but if you're a comedian just starting out, you can come any of the other Mondays to get your feet wet.

"There aren't many open-mic opportunities in the Lake Norman area, and I am glad we have this one at the Hideaway," said comedian Bruce Bellile, who lives in The Greens at Birkdale Village in Huntersville. "Being on Monday nights, there aren't any other open mics in the Charlotte area that night to compete with."
