Lake Norman Elementary
Stock Car Racing: The North Carolina Senate voted April27 to pass a bill to have stock car racing established as the "official state sport" of the state. The legislation was proposed by 13 fifth- and sixth-graders at Lake Norman. The students were recognized during Charlotte Motor Speedway's Windstream Pole Night on May29.
Rocky River Elementary
Teacher of the Year: Jenn Hughes was named Teacher of the Year. Jeanne Kouwe and Tauron Ferguson were named Teacher Assistants of the Year.

Community School of Davidson
Million Dollar Memo: Teacher Jennifer Chaffman entered the school in the Million Dollar Memo, a contest to win $1,067,000 worth of Queensland, Australia, travel experiences. The school is now one of three U.S. organizations and one of 70 organizations from around the world in the running. If the school wins, Chaffman hopes to use the opportunity to have the school's annual staff retreat in Australia.
