Mooresville High

Scholarships: The class of 2011 received a record amount of scholarship dollars: more than $2,530,000.

Mooresville Middle

Teacher of the Year: Shelby Westmoreland was named Teacher of the Year. Amy Totzke was named the Mooresville Graded School District beginning teacher of the year.

Lake Norman Elementary

Stock Car Racing: The North Carolina Senate voted April27 to pass a bill to have stock car racing established as the "official state sport" of the state. The legislation was proposed by 13 fifth- and sixth-graders at Lake Norman. The students were recognized during Charlotte Motor Speedway's Windstream Pole Night on May29.

Rocky River Elementary

Teacher of the Year: Jenn Hughes was named Teacher of the Year. Jeanne Kouwe and Tauron Ferguson were named Teacher Assistants of the Year.

Iredell-Statesville Schools

Mountain State University

Leadership seminar: "Leading for Results with Resource Acumen" is scheduled for 8:30-10:30a.m. July20. 517 Alcove Road, Mooresville. The series is free, but the university requests that attendees register online at www.mountainstate.edu/leadership-seminar.

Community School of Davidson

Million Dollar Memo: Teacher Jennifer Chaffman entered the school in the Million Dollar Memo, a contest to win $1,067,000 worth of Queensland, Australia, travel experiences. The school is now one of three U.S. organizations and one of 70 organizations from around the world in the running. If the school wins, Chaffman hopes to use the opportunity to have the school's annual staff retreat in Australia. The public can vote for the school by going to www.MillionDollarMemo.com through July 1.
