Farmer's Market fundraising: The Davidson Farmer's Market has kicked off the 2011 Friends of the Market Pea Pod Fundraising Campaign. The goal of $2,500 will help continue the year-round market's mission to offer access to fresh local food and the ability to communicate directly with the producers. Funds raised will help cover the costs to replace damaged tents, buy new cooking demonstration equipment and cover expenses. Explorium truck event: More than 700 people attended the first-ever Touch a Truck event at McGuire Nuclear Station on June 11. Children explored specialty vehicles while learning about safety around heavy machinery. Police cars, electric cars, fire trucks, a miniature C-130 airplane, fire boats and more were showcased. These organizations participated: Duke Energy, the Huntersville and Cornelius Police Departments, the Denver Fire Department, the Charlotte Department of Transportation, 1-800-GOT-JUNK, Ace Towing, ATA Karate and the National Air Guard.
