Davidson

Book Garden: The town will begin construction of the Davidson Public Art Commission's Book Garden project with donations from Wells Fargo and Davidson residents David and Betsey Stewart.

The project will honor Davidson's literary and academic history and provide a covered area for reading.

Grant Awarded: REI recently awarded the Davidson Lands Conservancy $9,981 to expand public access within Lake Davidson Nature Preserve.

The organization plans to construct 1,600 feet of walking trails, a community gazebo, picnic tables and trail furnishings in the 8-acre preserve.

Huntersville

Alzheimer's Research: Lake Norman News recently wrote about Huntersville resident Dick Lunney, who was traveling across country to raise money for Alzheimer's research.

Lunney recently returned from his 7,182 mile trip and raised more than $7,000.

Charity Opportunities: The Rusty Rudder is looking for donations, hole sponsors and golfers for its second annual charity golf outing, "The Friends of Brielle & Brook," to help raise money for families with children with spinal muscular atrophy.
