Festival exhibitors wanted: The Davidson Lands Conservancy is looking for exhibitors and volunteers for this year's Green Day Festival, which showcases organizations that employ eco-friendly practices.

The festival will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Davidson Village Green on Main Street at Concord Road.

Interested exhibitors and volunteers should apply by August 22.

Dancers wanted: The North Mecklenburg Senior Center is looking for dancers to join its award-winning line dance performance team, The Lucky Stars. Applicants must have a basic knowledge of dance, be more than 55 years old and attend at least four of five free training sessions running from Aug. 2 to Aug. 30.

Davidson

Reading together: ReadDavidson, an initiative organized by the town of Davidson, Main Street Books and the Davidson Public Library, recently announced "The Help" as its 2011 pick. The group has chosen a book annually since 2007. Each year, residents are encouraged to read the chosen book and attend book-related events around town.

This year, six book-related events are planned from August to November.

The kick-off event will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 16 at Our Town Cinemas for the showing of the movie, "The Help." A short discussion will follow.
