Activities: An evening of dancing to live music, with the beach and surf just beyond your partner's shoulder. Performing this year are the Wilmington Big Band, beach/shag tunes by Buddy Skipper and the Jetty Jumpers, and the Dixieland All-Stars. This fundraiser for the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History will draw about 400 people and sprawl through the lobby, patio, dining and ballroom areas of the resort, which faces both the ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway (room info: 910-256-2251; www.blockaderunner.com). The Blockade Runner will be selling food and drinks.

Directions: Take U.S. 74 east to the Wilmington area; continue east on U.S. 74 (looping north of downtown Wilmington) or U.S. 76 (through downtown), following signs to Wrightsville Beach. Cross the Waterway and take U.S. 76 (275 Waynick Blvd.) south to the resort.
