Park opening: The Mazeppa Road Park Grand Opening is Sept. 3. Recreational activities, sport clinics and more are planned. A schedule is available online at www.MooresvilleRecreation.org.

Labor Day: Town offices are closed Sept. 5, and there is no sanitation pickup.

Sidewalk project: Crews are constructing a sidewalk on Iredell Avenue from Broad Street to N.C. 150. The project is scheduled to be completed in September. Details: 704-799-4065.

Mooresville Public Library: The 2011 Summer Reading Program surpassed many goals. Library readers, both juvenile and adult, read more than 2 million pages, more than double the original goal.

Troutman

Public park: Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $58,000 grant to Troutman's Public Park Project. Tree clearning has begun for the 30-acre park.

Catawba County

Library grant: Catawba County Library System has received a $2,000 grant from Target to to purchase 500 preschool books and 50 canvas bags for families of preschoolers to borrow quantities of books for at-home reading.
