Women's Impact Fund

Accepting letters of inquiry: The Women's Impact Fund is kicking off its ninth year of grant-making by accepting letters of inquiry for the 2011-12 grant cycle. The WIF intends to award five high-impact grants ranging from $40,000 to $100,000 to nonprofit organizations in Mecklenburg County. The deadline for submission is Oct. 24. Details: 704-707-4292.

Charlotte Knights

School supplies drive: The Charlotte Knights and News 14 Carolina will collect school supplies prior to the team's 7:15 p.m. game Sept. 2. All items will be donated to classroom central. Items can be placed in bins in the plaza in front of the stadium. Details: 704-357-8071.

Operation Homefront

Freedom Run: Operation Homefront of North Carolina will hold the second annual Freedom 5K Run/Walk at Freedom Park on Sept. 3 to raise money for military families. The organization provides emergency financial assistance to families of combat-deployed service members and returning wounded warriors. Volunteers and corporate sponsors are needed.
