Get a library card: The Mooresville Public Library is giving away free water bottles to the first 200 people who sign up this month to become new library card holders.

Fall program activities include weekly story times for children through age 5; special programs and events for preschoolers and school-age kids; and more. Details: www.MooresvilleLibrary.org; 704-664-2927.

Honor someone with a gift: The town's Beautification Committee is offering residents a chance to give gifts from its Community Gift Catalogue, such as a bench, tree or hanging basket to honor or remember a person or occasion.

Wrought iron memorial benches are available at $1,200 each, which includes a commemorative plaque, installation and maintenance for the life of the bench. Certain species of trees are available for $250 each, which includes a plaque and continued tree maintenance.

Sherrills Ford

Fall festival: The Friends of the Sherrills Ford Library will host a free Community Fall Fest 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 15 at the library, 8456 Sherrills Ford Road. It will have children's games, prizes, face and pumpkin painting, cookie decorating, a craft table, balloon sculptures, a plant sale by Shagreen Nursery and a book and bake sale by the Friends of the Library. Refreshments will be available. The rain date is noon-4 p.m. Oct. 16.
