Comfort quilts: The Mooresville Centerpiece Quilters' Guild gave three quilts made by guild members for use in the new wing of the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. Teresa Ward, director of volunteers for Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, received the quilts from Pat Bourbeau, leader of the "comfort quilts" group, who made them. The guild meets at 10 a.m. on the second Monday of each month at the South Iredell Senior Center, 202 N. Church St., Mooresville. Visitors are welcome. Testing: Sirens near McGuire Nuclear Station will be tested at about 11:50 a.m. Oct. 12. The siren doesn't mean you need to evacuate; it's a signal for residents to tune to a radio or TV station in their area that carries an emergency alert message provided by county officials for the public.
