Whiskey painting: Would you like to try whiskey painting?

Charlotte Martin, a member since 2005 of the National Whiskey Painters America, will be the featured artist at the Mooresville Art Guild's meeting 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Mooresville Depot Visual Arts Center.

Bring a No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 or No. 6 size brush, a small palette of four or five watercolors. Paper and whiskey will be furnished. (The whiskey is for painting, not drinking). If you forget your supplies, MAG will supply the brushes and paint.

Band competition: Mooresville High School's Pride in Motion Band will host the 30th annual Blue Devil Classic on Oct. 15.

The competition will begin at 1 p.m. at Coach Joe Popp Stadium, with 20 marching bands from the Carolinas.

Admission is $5 for ages 6 and older and free for those under 6. Details:


Harness wind power: A windmill science workshop for older school-age children will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Sherrills Ford Branch Library. Donna Mull, 4-H Extension agent and county youth adviser, will show kids ages 9 and older how to create a windmill in "Wired for Wind."

Kids will experience being engineers as they design and build a wind turbine. Parents are invited as well.
