Senior adult driving safety: The national AARP Driver Safety Program will provide a free driver safety class for all military veterans noon-4:30 p.m. Nov. 4, at the South Iredell Senior Center, 312 Main St., Mooresville. Although this course is free only to veterans and their spouses, it is open to anyone else at a cost of $12 for AARP members and $14 for others. Veterans and their spouses are required to bring some form of military identification, such as discharge papers or an American Legion/VFW card, to the instructor.

The class will cover state driving laws and signs, automobile safety features and understanding the changes that come with aging in relation to driving and learning how to compensate for them.

Benefit book signing: Dove House Children's Advocacy Center has been chosen as the beneficiary of a children's book written by Mooresville author Michele Morgan and illustrated by Shannon White, also of Mooresville.

"Sleep Little Angel" will be launched at a book signing and release party 6-8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Four Corners Framing & Gallery on Main Street in downtown Mooresville. Dove House staff will be on hand for the book signing. The book costs $12.95 plus tax. Part of the proceeds of the sale of each book will be donated to Dove House.

Scouts honor: At its September meeting, the Troutman Board of Aldermen formally honored Troop 174 of the Boy Scouts of America. The troop was formed in 1960 and is chartered through the First United Methodist Church of Troutman.
