Nonprofit news: Ann Church recently was named president of UMAR, a nonprofit that serves adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Church succeeds Steve Sellers, who resigned as president in July.

Kids triathlon: Karly Owen, 10, a fifth-grade student at Barnette Elementary, recently competed at the national level of the Iron Kids Triathlon in Iowa. Owen finished 20th out of more than 80 girls. The triathlon consisted of a 4-mile bike ride and a 1-mile run. The swimming was canceled due to cold.

Davidson

New resources for residents: The town of Davidson recently created two free online communication tools for residents.

The Davidson Community Calendar, at www.davidsoncommunitycalendar.org, is a free calendar site.

The second tool, Explore Davidson,at www.exploredavidson.com, promotes local businesses. The site will offer visitors relocation information for potential businesses as well as highlight local events that may draw visitors.

Job seminar: The town of Davidson Parks and Recreation department will host several job seminars during the fall. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.
