ReStore anniversary: Our Towns Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the first anniversary of its second ReStore in Mooresville with a Birthday Bash celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 19.

The event, at 121 Norman Station Blvd., will feature a bounce house, story time, best-dressed dog contest, doggie musical chairs and concessions.

Academic awards: Pine Lake Preparatory recently recognized several students for receiving The President's Volunteer Service Award for 2010-11: Lindsey Lay, Connor Applegate, Ryan DeOre, Alan DeOre, Natalie Miles, Kim Abrams, Lizzy Fink, Shannon Wilson, Alex Patton and Savannah Swinea.


Park upgrade: The Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department has finished installing two synthetic turf infields at Huntersville Athletic Park.

Park officials said the new turf will provide a more consistent playing surface and will also require less maintenance than is needed for the grass and clay fields.


Food drive: Carolina Woman Fitness in Cornelius will host a food drive benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina through Nov. 18. With a donation of eight nonperishable food or personal-care items, residents can join Carolina Woman with no enrollment fee.
