Republican meeting: Dan Forest, a Republican candidate for N.C. lieutenant governor, will be the keynote speaker at the North Mecklenburg Republican Women's dinner meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at NorthStone Club, 15801 Northstone Drive, Huntersville. Forest will discuss the state's social and economic challenges and how he would address them as lieutenant governor.

Gala: Randleman-based Victory Junction will host the second annual Wish Upon a Star Holiday Gala for Children on Dec. 16 at The Fillmore in Charlotte.

Library system

Position open: The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Board of Trustees is continuing its search for a new leader for the library system.

The Board will be seeking a chief executive officer to lead the system after current CEO Vick Phillips leaves in July. Phillips joined the library as interim CEO in January, after former Director Charles Brown resigned.

The CEO helps develop an annual budget with funding partner Mecklenburg County, among other duties.
